South Side native Chaka Khan will join 12 other celebrities in the upcoming season of “Dancing with the Stars,” ABC announced Wednesday.
Also in the cast: Actor Gary Busey; reality TV star Kim Zolciak-Biermann; chef Paula Deen, country music singer Andy Grammer; singer Tamar Braxton; Alex Skarlatos, a National Guardsman from Oregon; longtime Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter; “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin’s daughter Bindi Irwin; YouTube star Hayes Grier; actress Alexa PenaVega and her husband, actor Carlos PenaVega; and Triple Crown-winning jockey Victor Espinoza.
The casting announcement was made Wednesday morning on “Good Morning America.” Khan, who grew up in the Hyde Park area, wore a black dress, fishnet thigh-highs and waved a large black-and-red fan during the segment.
Khan was asked whether her dancing outfits will have a retro vibe.
“I’ll be having some other costuming I’m sure. Those are just my practice clothes,” Khan said as pictures of her wearing crop tops were shown.
Khan, 62, will be paired with professional dancer Keo Motsepe.
Season 21 of “Dancing with the Stars” premieres Sept. 14 on ABC. Khan is next scheduled to perform in Chicago at Soulfest at UIC Pavilion Nov. 28.
