You might have to watch this trailer twice. It’s a lot to process.
“Jupiter Ascending” revolves around Jupiter Jones (played by Mila Kunis), a janitor who unknowingly is a threat to the Queen of the Universe because of her perfect genetic makeup. Caine (Channing Tatum) is a pointy-eared, albino soldier with wolf blood sent to Earth to kill Jupiter. Still with me? Caine ends up falling for Jupiter and becomes her protector, making him the T-800 to her John Connor, the Kevin Costner to her Whitney Houston and the Denzel Washington to her Dakota Fanning.
The Snow White-like story is from Beverly-raised Andy and Lana Wachowski, creators of “The Matrix” trilogy. It takes place in Chicago, among other places in the universe, and filmed in the city and suburbs over the summer. The trailer includes plenty of skyline views and a shot of Kunis looking out onto the city from what appears to be the Residences at Riverbend condo building on Canal Street.
“Jupiter Ascending” is scheduled to hit theaters July 18 and reportedly was expected to contribute $24 million to the local economy.
