You never get into an argument with a Latin woman!
In the final night of the battle rounds, the coaches watched the final performances, made their final steals, and completed their teams. In just one hour, the competition heats up with the judges selecting only the best to move on to the knock out rounds.
Team Shakira: Brandon Roush vs. Shawna P. "Piece of My Heart," Janis Joplin
It was the battle between youth vs. experience as special needs counselor Brandon Roush faced vintage rock goddess Shawna P. With both being very intense singers, their rendition of Janis Joplin’s “Piece of My Heart” surprised the coaches with the amazing chemistry (and Shawna’s ability to make everyone feel that it was indeed Ms. Joplin on stage.) After much deliberation Shakira decided to go with experience, picking Shawna P and her powerful voice. Sending a very eager Spicoli (whoops, Brandon) home, without a steal, but not before he asked Shakira to “Keep in touch.”
Team Adam: Duncan Kamakana vs. Sarah Simmons, “ Wanted You More,” Lady Antebellum
“Guys don’t be nervous; you’re singing this song in front of the person who wrote it.” That’s the way to ease your teams nerves Coach Adam. As the girl with the large voice Sarah Simmons faced the Hawaiian crooner Duncan Kamakana, taking on the Lady Antebellum hit, “Wanted You More.” As Coach Blake admitted that he was a fan of Sarah’s indeed saying he would buy her album, and Usher admiring Duncan’s confidence that “drives the women crazy.” Adam was left with the final decision, and indeed decided to go with Blake’s favorite singer, Sarah Simmons.
Not seen on TV, Usher selected Michelle Shamuel, Adam selected Amy Whitcome, and Blake decided to go with Justin Rivers.

Team Shakira: Cathia vs. Mary Miranda, “Antes de las Seis,” Shakira
“If you’re gonna go change my melody, you better be sure about it.” Yikes! It was the battle of the Latin divas as Cathia and Mary Miranda went head to head, performing their Coach Shakira’s hit “Antes de la Seis.” Cuban born Mary Miranda didn’t stand a chance against Cathia from the block in day one of rehearsal, but surprised her coach and mentor when she showed up to the final rehearsal ready for war. As both ladies took the stage, they were able to move the audience and the judges not familiar with the Spanish language with their powerful performance. While Blake was pretty sure the girls were singing to him, Adam was able to go with Mary Miranda, before making her final decision Usher got Shakira fired up, commending her and (jokingly) teasing her about choosing her own song for the ladies to sing. In the end it was Cuban born Mary, who would go on to the knock out rounds, and Cathia from the block who would move on to team Usher in another surprise steal!
The battle rounds have proved to be the most exciting part of the season so far, we can hope that the contestants can bring it in next week’s knock out round. Let’s just hope the contestants are indeed ready to rumble, as they duke it out another week in the ring, for a chance to become The Voice.Copyright © 2015, CT Now
