Fall movies -- like 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey'

The best movies of the year -- the thinking-man's spectaculars, the potential Oscar-winners, the latest efforts from big-name directors -- are almost always reserved for the fall. This year should prove no exception, as the coming months will see not only Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" (opening Dec. 14) but Steven Spielberg and Daniel Day-Lewis' take on "Lincoln" (wide release: Nov. 16), Tim Burton's animated "Frankenweenie" (opening Oct. 5), the newest James Bond thriller, "Skyfall" (opening Nov. 9) and many more.
