ODU, VCU invited to women's basketball postseason

Old Dominion, which won eight of its last 11 women's basketball games, will host Navy at 7 p.m. Thursday in the first round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament. The bracket was released late Monday night.

The Lady Monarchs (17-15) lost in the Conference USA quarterfinals.

VCU also earned an at-large bid in the WNIT and will play at Princeton 7 p.m. Thursday.

It is Old Dominion's 21st postseason appearance in the past 23 years. As a member of the Colonial Athletic Association, the Lady Monarchs won 17 conference titles and made 28 NCAA tournament appearances. ODU joined Conference USA for the 2013-14 season.

The Navy-ODU winner will face the winner of Furman at Auburn, a team coached by Peninsula native Terri Williams Flournoy. The VCU-Princeton victor will meet the winner of American at Seton Hall.
