Landstown High alumni DJ Woodmore and Sedric Nady scored 18 points apiece as Virginia Wesleyan defeated Johns Hopkins 84-72 Friday in an NCAA Division III first-round game in Virginia Beach.
The Marlins (23-6) went ahead 24-8 and led 40-24 at halftime, but the Bluejays played more competitively after that, led by Gene Williams' 20 points.
The Marlins, who are hosting a four-team bracket, advanced to Saturday's 7 p.m. game against Wesley, which beat Alvernia (Pa.) 83-78 in the first contest at Batten Center.
