It's official: Kyle Crockett has signed with the Cleveland Indians.
The fourth-round pick signed for a reported assigned slotted bonus of $463,000, the Charlottesville Daily Progress reported. He visited Cleveland for the first time this week, tweeting that it was far different than home.
Crockett went 12-3 in three U.Va. seasons, striking out 160, walking 28 and compiling a 1.98 earned-run average.
This season, he was 4-1 with a 1.70 ERA, 12 saves, 71 strikeouts and seven walks.
The left-hander led U.Va. to the final 16 of the NCAA tournament, where Mississippi State ended the Cavaliers' season in a super regional in Charlottesville. MSU is to face UCLA in a best-of-three series for the national championship.
Canzler scored two runs and drove in one. Buck Britton and Brandon Wood added two hits apiece for the Tides, who still have lost 10 of their last 12 games.
Richmond-area native Graham Stoneburner took the loss for the RailRiders, the New York Yankees' top farm club. He yielded nine hits and four runs in five innings.
In Game 1, Casey Stevenson hit two home runs, including a walk-off shot in the 11th inning of his first Triple-A game, to give the RailRiders a 6-4 win.
Andy Loomis took the loss for the Tides.
Norfolk had tied the score at 4 in the seventh on Canzler’s three-run homer.
Tides starter Daniel McCutchen yielded three earned runs, four hits and four walks in three innings, though he struck out six.

The Richmond Flying Squirrels, who had lost eight of nine, bounced back with a 6-5 victory at Reading.
Andrew Susac hit a home run and drove in three runs for the Squirrels, and Joe Panik batted 3-for-3. Anthony Hewitt slugged two home runs for the Fightin Phils.
