A stress fracture in his back kept Hunter Hartnett out of Jamestown's soccer games for weeks, but there was no way the senior was missing this one.
Hartnett scored two goals as the Eagles avenged their only loss of the season, beating York 3-0 in Thursday's Region I semifinals at Wanner Stadium.
"I missed it. We were just hoping I could save it up and play today," Hartnett said. "(The Falcons) were the only flaw in our record. We had to win to move on."
Jamestown (15-1-1), assured of a spot in the Group AA tournament, plays Tabb on Friday, looking to win its fifth straight region championship.
With Hartnett on the sidelines, York (14-6) beat Jamestown 2-0 in the Bay Rivers semifinals, then defeated Tabb to claim the district crown.
"A lot of these kids aren't used to losing, and when they did it in a spot that actually meant something, it kind of turned the key a little bit in their heads," Eagles coach Bobby O'Brien said. "I've got a good group of seniors. It wasn't going to be their last game tonight."
Patrick Kelly got the Eagles on the board with a header on a well-executed set piece with 26:50 left in the first half. Phil Geyer's corner kick found Drew Friedrichs' head, and Friedrich punched the ball to Kelly in front of the goal.
Kelly's cross through defenders on a breakaway led to the Eagles' second goal, which came on Hartnett's shot into the left corner of the goal with 35:47 left in the game. Hartnett added a header with Falcons goalkeeper Ben Kinney drawn up in the box with 20 minutes to play.
"During the district tournament, we lost that game, and (Hartnett) was right there on the sideline with me," O'Brien said. "We kind of looked at each other, and I could tell. We didn't talk, but it was a mutual thing that said, 'If we get to this game, there's no doubt he's playing.' "
The Falcons couldn't capitalize on their chances, including a corner kick with 22:25 to play, when Tajee Harley's header was cleared by a defender's head.
"We were on a run there," York coach Ryan Hagerty said. "We'd been playing pretty good, and tonight we didn't show up. That was probably our worst game, collectively, all season, and we saved it for the wrong time."

Tabb senior Sydney Omweg began Thursday's Region I girls soccer semifinal game against Jamestown living in the past.
After losing to Jamestown twice by 2-0 scores, including in the Bay Rivers District championship, the Tigers faced the Eagles for a third time at Wanner Stadium.
"We just remembered last season," Omweg said. "We beat them twice and they beat us the third time, so we just kept thinking about that."
Omweg's goal just more than 16 minutes into the first half helped Tabb rewrite recent history with a victory that guaranteed the Tigers (19-2-1) a spot in the Group AA state tournament and ended the Eagles' season at 14-3-2.
Tabb will play Grafton for the region title on Friday.
Junior Alison Harmatz added a goal with 13 minutes left in the game, and Tabb goalkeeper Kelsey Hecker made 10 saves to assure the Tigers of redemption.
Omweg's first-half goal came off a free kick from Macy Peebles that Harmatz settled in front of the goal, setting up Omweg's straight-on shot from 25 yards.
Harmatz added some insurance off a long ball from Katie Herold with 13:01 to play.
"It's always zero-zero," Tabb coach Kendra Perry said. "After halftime, we told them to come back and score another goal. There's no ifs, ands or buts about it. You have to score another goal, and they did. They came through."
Hannah Sams had four saves for Jamestown, which had an apparent goal with 16:36 to play nullified by an offsides call.
"We were still controlling the ball, possessing the ball the way we normally do, and generating some opportunities," Eagles co-coach Kevin Dawson said. "We just weren't able to capitalize.
"… It'll take a while for them to get over this."
