Both remaining Peninsula District teams fell in the Eastern Region girls volleyball semifinals with losses in Tallwood’s gym in Virginia Beach.
Menchville closed a 20-2 season with a 25-7, 25-9, 25-10 loss to two-time defending state Group AAA champion Kellam, and Kecoughtan lost 25-12, 22-25, 25-10, 25-15 to Beach No. 2 seed Ocean Lakes.
Menchville and Kecoughtan each won first-round matches in five sets against Eastern District opposition.
Tuesday, New Kent swept Southampton in straight sets Tuesday to reach a 7 p.m. semifinal Thursday at Courtland.
In the Virginia Independent Schools Division II quarterfinals Tuesday, No. 5 seed Peninsula Catholic outlasted No. 4 Fredericksburg Christian 19-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-18 to reach Friday’s 8 p.m. semifinal against No. 1 Hampton Roads Academy at Steward School in Richmond.
Walsingham Academy lost 25-14, 20-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-12 at Highland in Warrenton.
