YORK — Junior Kapri Doucet scored three touchdowns Friday to lead Bruton to a 43-20 win over Greensville County in the Panthers’ home opener.
In the first half, Doucet had eight carries for 53 yards, including two touchdowns.
The Panthers scored first with a 23-yard field goal by Peter McReynolds with six minutes to play in the first quarter.
The Eagles answered with a 67-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Malik Turner to Kaleel Crawley.
Noah Butler’s kick was good and Greensville took a 7-3 lead with 4:28 left in the first quarter.
Austin Wyatt then posted a 63-yard rushing touchdown to extend the Eagles’ lead to 14-3 with 36 seconds remaining in the quarter.
Bruton fought back. On a seven-play, 2 1/2-minute drive, Doucet scored a touchdown on a 1-yard run. McReynolds’ kick was good, and Bruton was down 14-10.
The Panthers’ Richard Taylor picked off a Greensville pass and returned it for a touchdown, then Doucet had a 44-yard touchdown run to make Bruton’s lead 22-20 at the half.
The Panthers tightened their defense, holding Greensville scoreless for the remainder of the contest.
Taylor intercepted another pass and returned the ball for a 16-yard touchdown. Doucet added his final touchdown of the night with a 25-yard run with 6:06 left on the clock.
On a 20-yard run, Elijah Rice took Bruton to the final score of 43-20.
