Peter Holland had a hat trick Friday night as the resurgent Norfolk Admirals (25-25-3-1) beat Charlotte 6-2 at Scope.
The Admirals overcame a 2-0 deficit to beat the Checkers (32-18-2-3), one of the AHL Western Conference’s top teams.
Brandon McMillan scored twice to pull the Admirals even, and Chris Wagner netted the go-ahead goal 5:08 into the second period. Holland, recently sent down by the parent NHL Anaheim Ducks, scored the last three goals.
The Admirals, who spent much of the season mired at the bottom of the 15-team Eastern Conference, have moved up to 12th with 54 and are in the playoff chase.
Norfolk is two points behind three squads who are tied for ninth and is five points behind the eighth-place Connecticut Whale, which holds the final playoff berth.
