A group of investors, including former NFL Redskin star Bruce Smith, is buying the old Hampton Post Office. Bruce Smith and Global Squared L.L.C. announced plans to open The Bruce Smith Restaurant and Entertainment Complex at 132 E. Queen Street in downtown Hampton this fall. The building, formerly 2nd Street Restaurant, has had an interesting past. In 1986, the city bought the old Hampton Post Office from the federal government for $250,000. Three years later, the city agreed to sell it for the same price to David Merritt, who wanted to open a restaurant there. A week after the restaurant opened, Merritt filed for bankruptcy.
