Phoebus High School locked down after gunshots heard Tuesday

The sound of gunshots prompted a lockdown at Phoebus High School on Tuesday afternoon, according to a letter from the school’s principal.

In an e-mail to parents, Principal Robert Johnson said Phoebus went into lockdown mode because of “shots fired in the surrounding neighborhood."

Hampton police and school officials searched the school, parking lots and surrounding area before deeming it safe to reopen the school, he said.
