Gloucester County hires new engineering director

A native of Gloucester has been hired as director of engineering for the county.

Brian D. Lewis graduated from Gloucester High School before obtaining a civil engineering degree from Old Dominion University, said a county spokeswoman. Lewis has worked for the city of Newport News for the past 11 years, most recently as chief of environmental engineering overseeing the environmental services division, the spokeswoman said.

Lewis will report to Assistant County Administrator for Community Development Garrey Curry, who previously served as the county engineer.

"We are very fortunate to hire a seasoned engineer with long standing ties to the county," Curry said. "I look forward to working with Brian as he leads the Engineering Department."

Lewis began working for the county Dec. 16. His annual salary is $82,000.

"I am pleased to be returning to my hometown and working on behalf of the residents of Gloucester County," he said.
