CubeSats that launched from Wallops Island last month are being deployed from the International Space Station.
Some 33 miniature satellites were aboard Orbital Science Corp.’s Cygnus space freighter on its maiden operational voyage to the ISS. More are set launch in May during the Orb-2 mission.
CubeSats are miniature satellites – 4 inches square – built more economically by using readily available, standardized, off-the-shelf components, like smart phones.
According to NASA, two pairs of Nanoracks CubeSats deployed late Wednesday and early Thursday, and two more were set to go late Thursday and early Friday.
