Bronze Door Wine Classic coming up Saturday at The Mariners' Museum

The Mariners’ Museum’s Bronze Door Society will hold its third annual Wine Classic from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday June 15 at the museum.

More than 90 wines from California, Oregon, Australia, Spain, France and Italy will be featured. Wineries represented include Acacia, Canoe Ridge, Charles Krug, Chateau Magence and others. One Virginia winery, Chateau Morrisette, will be poured as well.

“Over the years, we hope this is going to be something here on the Virginia Peninsula that people look forward to, and keep coming back to because of the quality of what we are serving,” said Gerry Hanley, chairman of the society’s steering council.

Music by the Jimmy Masters Duo and light hors d’oeurves will complete the evening.

The Bronze Door Society is the museum’s educational and fund-raising support group. It’s named for the bronze doors at the museum’s original entrance that were commissioned by museum co-founder Archer M. Huntington and created by American sculptor Herbert C. Adams in the early 1930s.

Tickets are $45 in advance, $55 at the door. There’s also tickets to a VIP-level tasting of 10 additional top-tier wines that is available for $65 in advance, $75 at the door. They’re available by calling 757-596-2222 or online at
