With a view of Fisher's Island and passing fishing fleets , Skipper's Dock in Stonington is all about ambience.
Located in historic Stonington Village, this popular restaurant sits on a 600-foot pier and offers a dining room, bar and outdoor deck and complimentary docking for boaters.
On sunny days, customers can't resist dining on the deck. With anchored boats bobbing in the choppy waters, motor boats racing out to the Long Island Sound and the sea air adding a tinge of salt to your meal, the surroundings seem to captivate long after your meal is finished.
The dining room decor contains several replicas of cruise line advertisements from the 1920s and 1930s. Ship signs like "Brittiana" and "Seaman's Bride" are nailed into the rafters above. The bar is also filled with memorabilia. Old Life Magazine covers blanket the walls and placemats are copies of the Skipper's Dock menu from the 1940s, reminding patrons of the days when a lobster dinner cost $2.50.
The predominately seafood menu also includes several dishes for those who prefer something other than the ocean's offerings.
The food is tasty, but the historic oceanside atmosphere is what makes dining at Skipper's Dock's memorable experience.
Skipper's Dock is open for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and for dinner beginning at 4 p.m. A jazz brunch is available on Sunday.
