The Mill on the River

Once a crumbling former mill, this casual upscale restaurant in South Windsor now offers a beautiful waterfront dining experience.

Built beside the Podunk River, Mill on the River offers view of the water from almost every area of the restaurant. The "Rafters Room" provides a vista from above the river, while the large skylights in the 'River Room" frame the scene of rushing waters at the base of a waterfall. Diners can also request a outdoor table on a raised patio above the water.

Though restored, the restaurant retains the rustic feel of an old mill, with timbers and boards, exposed wood beams and a softly lit interior. Classical music plays in the background as servers dressed in neat black pants and white button-up shirts help customers.

There is no stated dress code, but most people stick to business casual.

The menu features a large variety of dishes from simple to exquisite. Entrees include Italian food, chicken, steaks, and shrimp and cost between $13.95 and $24.95. Sunday brunch, a prix-fixe menu and children's menu is available.

The Mill on the River is primarily known as a special events location. The "River Room" is a pretty place to hold a wedding reception, and the grounds surrounding the restaurant are perfect for photographs. Remember the "Bridezilla?" Her wedding reception took place at this South Windsor eatery.

Reservations are recommended.
