There was much lamenting on the foodie blog sites a few months ago when Cromwell's Mama Roux's closed its doors. No more great pulled pork or other classic Southern cuisine.
The Main Street eatery is up and running again, this time serving a different kind of good food under the eye of well-known restaurant owner Roy Merluzzo.
Mitchell's on Main is another in his Mitchell's chain, which serves diner-style home-cooked food that Merluzzo says is designed with the current economy in mind.
"People want good food at a good price in a clean, comfortable place," says Merluzzo, whose Cromwell location specializes in breakfast and lunch. "This is the kind of dining people are looking for."
Merluzzo also owns Mitchell's Coffee House in Vernon and Rocky Hill as well as Mitchell's On the River at the ferry landing in Rocky Hill.
From its homemade Belgian waffles and Eggs Benedict for breakfast, to lunch specials that include scratch soups, sandwiches, salads, pot roast and roast turkey dinners, the place, which opened just a few weeks ago, has already attracted a faithful following.
"People have definitely found us...New paint, new equipment, new employees," says location co-owner Tom Barnes, about the face lift the space underwent before it reopened.
Located at 317 Main St., Mitchell's on Main is open Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sundays from 7a.m. to 2 p.m. Takeout and catering are available. Information: 860-613-0770.
