With just a few minor changes--like a huge black and white painting inspired by the movie poster from Roman Holiday , white linen table cloths and fresh gerbera daisies on the tables--Café Roma transforms the old J.R.'s Bijou into a Roman café.
Co-owner Pino Pace, who hails from Bari, Italy (a town he says is located on the "heel" of Italy's boot), says his new Italian eatery is a like a touch of Europe with its brick walls and cathedral ceiling.
The food is traditional Northern Italian fare, with much of the pasta--like the gnocchi and the ravioli--made by, who else, Pino's mom. The new restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, the lunch menu featuring everything from soup, salad and appetizers to paninis, pasta dishes and full entrées like Veal Sorrentino and Salmon all Griglia. To sweeten the pot, they have a Happy Hour every weekday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that includes free hors d'oeuvres and drink specials.
