CAW's Celebration of American Crafts Means the Holiday Shopping Season Has Begun

The New Haven art school/gallery's annual fundraiser runs Nov. 2 to Dec. 24

Creative Arts Workshop’s annual Celebration of American Crafts starts the holiday shopping season in earnest Nov. 2. Part art exhibit, parts community arts/crafts gathering, part gift shop, the celebration continues right up until Christmas eve.

Friday is a special preview reception, free of charge and open to the public. So the thing really starts on Nov. 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. After that, regular hours are Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m., with added hours every Thursday (until 8 p.m.) plus a last-ditch Dec. 24 spree from 11 a.m .to 2 p.m. CAW members get special opening-weekend discounts Nov. 1-3.

A slew of special events are held during the American Crafts fair: a fashion show Nov. 17 at 11 a.m. ($20 admission); “Connecticut Artists Night Nov. 21 at 5 p.m. (free); A free “Crafternoon” of “communal crafting” is Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. On Dec. 12, designer Allie Bruch will give a free talk on “Interior Style!” at 5 p.m.
