Famished for Fiction
Our club has been meeting for three years and comprises fifth- and sixth-graders at the Melzer School in Morton Grove. We meet monthly over the lunch and recess periods, which is about 55 minutes.
This year the club became so popular that we had to split into two groups, divided by homeroom teacher. If we didn't split up the group, we would have more than 30 kids at each meeting.
We'd love to meet Rick Riordan. We can't wait for Riordan's next book in "The Kane Chronicles" series.
Books we loved: the "Conspiracy 365" series by Gabrielle Lord, "Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen and "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins.
We are worried that "The Hunger Games" movie may get an R rating. If it does get a PG-13 rating, we wonder how some of the really violent action will be shown.
Our next book: "The Westing Game" by Ellen Raskin. The "Famished for Fiction" group at Park View School is reading the same book, and for the first time we will all be meeting outside of school to talk about the book, watch the movie version and have pizza and popcorn. We can't wait!Copyright © 2015, CT Now
