Argonne National Laboratory director Eric D. Isaacs has been named the next provost of the University of Chicago. Isaacs will take on his new role on March 31. He will succeed Thomas F. Rosenbaum, who will become president of the California Institute of Technology. As provost, he will be the university¿s chief academic officer, overseeing 13 academic divisions, schools and institutes with faculty appointment responsibilties. Isaacs is the chair of the National Laboratories Directors Council, the chair of the Illinois Science and Technology Council and a board member for many other organizations. Isaacs joined Argonne in 2003.
