A female inmate was found hanged Friday while in custody at the Kane County Adult Justice Center, officials said.
An officer found the woman unresponsive in her cell around 1:45 p.m while making a routine check, the Kane County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
She was taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva where she was pronounced dead around 5:08 p.m., the release said.
The inmate was identified as Terry A. Hart, 52, of the 600 block of Woodland Drive in South Elgin, according to a statement from the Kane County Sheriff's Office.
A preliminary finding of asphyxiation by hanging was determined after a Friday autopsy by the Kane County coroner's office, the statement said.
Hart had been in the Adult Justice Center since July 31, 2013 and had previous contacts with the South Elgin Police Department, the statement said.
The investigation into the incident continues by sheriff's office detectives.Copyright © 2015, CT Now
