Two wounded in afternoon shootings

A man told police he was shot on a block in the West Garfield Park neighborhood where police could not find a crime scene and neighbors reported no gunfire Thursday night.

He was dropped off at Loretto Hospital on Central Avenue off the Eisenhower Expressway before 9 p.m. with a gunshot wound to the neck.

The "uncooperative victim" told police he was shot in the 4100 block of W. Gladys Avenue about 8:40 p.m but police didn't find anything to indicate the crime had taken place there.

The 20-year-old was transferred to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in serious condition, police said.

About 4 hours earlier, someone shot a 17-year-old boy in the 3900 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue in the Bronzeville neighborhood.

He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition with a wound to his thigh.
