Luxembourg Palace, Paris, France

Built between 1615 and 1630 for Marie de Medici, mother of Louis XIII, this famous Renaissance palace has been the scene of many outstanding events in history. Used as a prison during the French Revolution, it was where Napoleon was crowned Emperor of France in 1804. In 1946 the Paris Peace Conference was held within its walls.
