A man who was killed when a taxi cab struck him late last night when he stepped into Cicero Avenue near Midway Airport has been identified,  authorities said.

The cab was moving south in the 5200 block of South Cicero Avenue around 11:30 p.m. Monday when a man, believed to be in his 50s, stepped into the road just south of Archer Avenue, Police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said.

Janusz Kamienski, 56, of the 400 block of Annawood Drive in Yukon, Oklahoma, died at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The man was not in a crosswalk when he was struck, and police have not issued any citations to the cab driver, Gaines said.

Police officers directed traffic around the scene through rain and occasional lightning. The man's body lay covered by a clear plastic sheet just north of the cab and underneath a blue sign directing drivers toward Midway's terminals and parking lots.
