A briefcase left at the Thorndale CTA stop prompted police to stop Red Line traffic in both directions until 4:45 a.m.
Someone had left the briefcase at the Red Line stop at 1100 W. Thorndale Avenue in the Edgewater Beach neighborhood. A person called police about it around 2:25 a.m. and the Chicago Police Department's Bomb & Arson unit responded.
They were able to determine that the briefcase contained "non-explosive miscellaneous items," Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
The scene was cleared by about 4:45 a.m., Alfaro said.
