This week’s episode of “Saturday Night Live” featured “Waking up with Kimye,” a skit in which a delusional and brash West and a spacey and talentless Kim Kardashian host a morning talk show. “SNL” host Lady Gaga, who held her own during the episode, played a nerdy Apple store employee on the morning show.
The skit pokes fun at West’s public defense of Kardashian, who he has said in interviews deserves a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. When Kardashian (played by Nasim Pedrad) holds up a macaroni necklace she made herself, West (played by Jay Pharoah) proudly says “Ya’ll hear that? She just changed the game. Food is jewelry now.”
The “SNL” jokes were harsher than the ones featured on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in September, if only because they attacked West’s fiancee as well. West went on a Twitter rant against Kimmel after he had two children reenact the Chicago rapper’s interview with BBC Radio 1. As of Sunday morning, West had yet to react on Twitter to the “SNL” parody.
While Gaga didn’t write the sketch, it’s interesting that she would take part knowing how sensitive West is and considering she was supposed to co-headline the “Fame Kills” tour with him in 2009 before it was canceled. Maybe Gaga’s involvement with the skit has something to do with West’s comment about her in the BBC Radio 1 interview?
“‘Look at Gaga, she’s the creative director of Polaroid,” West said. “I like some of the Gaga songs, but what the (expletive) does she know about cameras?”
Also featured on the “SNL” episode: A “Weekend Update” mention of Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the tallest building ruling, a handsy Gaga-R. Kelly duet that will have you thinking “I wonder what Taylor Kinney thinks of this," and, unfortunately, Kenan Thompson.
