Porchlight Music Theatre, the small Equity company specializing in "Chicago-style" musicals, has announced its 2013-14 season with a distinctly retro flare.
Beginning Aug. 31, Porchlight will stage the Chicago premiere of "Double Trouble," the musical comedy by Bob and Jim Walton evoking the days of 1940s Hollywood. Therein, two tap-dancing actors play a host of different characters.
In February, Porchlight will stage the popular Fats Waller musical, "Ain't Misbehavin'," and the company's spring centerpiece will be a new production of the much-loved Frank Loesser musical "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying." Opening night is set for April 29, 2014.
Porchlight also said it will produce a series of "lost" Broadway musicals for single-night, concert-style presentations centered on a single year — in the first instance, 1964. All shows are at Stage 733, 1225 W. Belmont Ave.
