Chicago police and fire officials have secured a West Loop highrise building this evening, where a suspicious package was discovered, authorities said.
According to Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez, Bomb and Arson detectives were called to the scene after receiving a report that a man who had been denied entry to the Presidential Towers complex at 555 W. Madison St. said there was a bomb on the building's 50th floor.
The package was found about 6:40 p.m., and authorities secured the scene by 9 p.m. after the package was determined to be non explosive, police said.
Police didn't say what the package appeared to be, or where it was discovered.
Fire officials were on scene to assist police, but no evacuations had been ordered, Fire Department spokesman Will Knight said.
