Plain White T’s singer Tom Higgenson likes to think of his punk rock side project, That Lying B----, as an outlet for his edgier side.
The band, which will perform Friday at Subterranean with AM Taxi, began when Darren Vorel of The Scissors wrote a bunch of songs to help him deal with his break-up with ex-bandmate Yvonne Szumski. Vorel then asked Higgenson and fellow T’s member Dave Tirio to help him record the songs.
“Basically this is a four-piece high intensity punk band with friends I used to play with in high school,” said Higgenson, a Willowbrook High School alum, by email. “We have an off the cuff, don’t give a (expletive) aesthetic and attitude, but take our music seriously. The songwriting blends the perfect mix of '(Forget) you' and 'I still love you.'
"We jumped at the chance to have some fun and get back to our punk rock roots, and started jamming the songs in my basement/studio with Darren's brother Eric Vorel rounding out the line up on lead guitar. We all have some issues, anger, resentment, etc., inside us, and That Lying B---- is a fun way for us to let it all out.”
