A 44-year-old man was struck by a car and killed Saturday night in the Avalon Park neighborhood on the South Side, authorities said.
The man stepped into northbound traffic on the 7900 block of South Stony Island Avenue at about 11:15 p.m., Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
He was struck by a 1997 Chrystler Cirrus as it proceeded through a green light, Greer said. He was not in a crosswalk at the time, Greer said.
The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 12:21 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
He was identified by the medical examiner's office as Christopher Cooper of the 2700 block of South Indiana Avenue.
Police have issued the driver of the Cirrus, 23-year-old Frederick Jackson, a citation for failing to exercise due care.
