A gunman shot two 17-year-old boys as they walked down the sidewalk in the McKinley Park neighborhood shortly after midnight on Monday, police said.
The shooting occurred around 12:35 a.m. in the 1700 block of West 38th Street, Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
One of the boys was shot in the chin and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition. The other boy was shot in the ankle and listed in good condition at Mercy Hospital.
Police taped off three areas within a block of each other on 38th Street. Blood was splattered across the sidewalk at one scene east of Hermitage Avenue, while at another scene across Hermitage, a sports cap rested between a home and the street.
When a resident emerged from his home and ducked under police tape to ask what happened, an officer walked him back to his door.
Police have no suspects in custody as Area Central detectives investigate.
The shooting came about eight hours after a 14-year-old boy was fatally shot in the 2200 block of South Leavitt Street, about two and a half miles away.
