An Oak Forest teenager has been charged with aggravated driving under the influence after she hit another car head-on, paralyzing the other driver.
Erica Gallardo, 19, was given a $50,000 bond by Judge Laura Sullivan in Cook County bond court on Saturday.
According to court documents, Gallardo was driving a 2001 Mercury Mountaineer and hit a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer head-on on March 27 at the intersection of Steger and Richton Roads in Steger.
The other driver, a 26-year-old man, suffered a fractured femur bone and T-12 vertebrae, paralyzing him from the waist down, according to the assistant state's attorney.
According to prosecutors, Gallardo's blood alcohol level was .117 blood alcohol level; .08 is the legal limit. Prosecutors said Gallardo had no criminal record.
Gallardo was arrested on April 11 and charged April 12, according to court documents.
Gallardo's private attorney declined to answer questions from reporters after court Saturday.
Her next court date is set for April 16.
