(Japan, 14 minutes, directed by Shuhei Morita)

When a craftsman traveling through a storm in the forest takes shelter in a seemingly abandoned shrine high on a hill, he discovers more than he anticipated. He must quickly employ all his skills to appease the spirits that inhabit the objects in the shrine, such as tattered umbrellas and bolts of torn fabric (all rendered in gorgeous detail). This moody CG marvel—at times funny, creepy and touching—introduces Western audiences to Yokai, a type of ghost from Japanese folklore. The limited dialogue is in Japanese, with easy-to-read subtitles.
