Tribune reporter

A 23-year-old man was wounded this morning in northwest suburban Elgin in a shooting that police said was possibly gang related.

About 1:35 a.m., officers responded to a call of shots fired near the area of Jefferson and Porter streets, according a news release from the Elgin Police Department.

When officers arrived they found a man who suffered a gunshot wound to his leg. He was taken to Sherman Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the release said.

Police said two separate groups got into an argument before the man was shot and the shooting may have been gang related.

Anyone with information about the shooting should contact the Elgin Gang Investigation Division at (847) 289-2646.
