Western suburbs: Future of DuPage fairgrounds
A task force appointed by DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin is expected to deliver its report on the future of the DuPage County Fairgrounds and, ultimately, the annual agricultural festival and carnival. Major projects continue in Naperville, where contractors expect to break ground on the Water Street development, which will feature a boutique hotel downtown. The Naperville Park District plans to dedicate a nature center at Knoch Knolls Park. In March, voters in Kane County will consider a tax increase that would generate about $12 million a year to provide services to people with developmental disabilities. In DuPage, voters will pick leaders for the Forest Preserve Commission and County Board, among other offices. Meanwhile, state Route 59 expansion work will continue between Ferry Road and New York Street in Naperville. The $84.8 million project includes converting the Interstate 88 interchange to a ┐diverging diamond┐ configuration and adding a third lane of traffic in each direction on Route 59.
