K, e, double-L, oh, double-Good Grief, what are you people thinking?
Today on Facebook, Alinea partner Nick Kokonas posted a link to snackpicks.com, a recipe website owned by Kellogg's, listing "Chef Grant Actatz' Sweet Potato Toppers."
The presumably yummy snack consists of Keebler Town House Toppers crackers topped with pureed sweet potatoes and three bourbon-soaked raisins.
Except the recipe apparently didn't come from 'Grant Actatz' (sic), or Alinea chef Grant Achatz, either. Kokonas says "it's not our food" and says Kellogg's is using Grant's name without permission or payment.
You can check out the site and recipe here, except Kellogg's just took the page down. Sorry.
On his Facebook post, Kokonas, who says he and Grant have yet to hear from Kellogg's on this, speculated that the misspelling of Achatz' name was strategic, a way to skirt legal issues. However, there is also this recipe, in which the chef's name is spelled correctly, for "Chef Grant Achatz' Ham and Curry Toppers," which also calls for the use of the Keebler crackers.
Guess Grant really loves him some Keebler Town House Toppers. My joke is that these dishes are actually creations from Next's upcoming "Oconomowoc 1987" menu.
A spokesperson for Kellogg's said "We are reaching out to the chef" and that the company is investigating.
