A 66-year-old Englewood man found dead inside his South Side home died from natural causes, the Cook County medical examiner's office determined following an autopsy today.
A request for a well-being check led police officers to the decomposed body of John Rich Sr., which was discovered in the bedroom at his residence in the 1000 block of West 59th Street just before 10 p.m. Monday, police said.
It was unclear how long he'd been dead.
Initial indications that he might have suffered a gunshot wounder were incorrect, according to the medical examiner's office. He died of heart disease in a natural death, the medical examiner's office determined following an autopsy.
A police spokesman said investigators had begun a death investigation pending the outcome of the autopsy.
