Glenview woman killed in Skokie wreck

Tribune reporter

A 75-year-old Glenview woman was killed in a two-car collision today in Skokie.
Maya Rekhtman, 75, of the 1100 block of Castillian Court in Glenview, was pronounced dead at 10:18 a.m. at Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
The wreck occurred at 9:37 a.m. at the intersection of Skokie Boulevard and Dempster Street, according to Skokie Police Cmdr. Paul Weinman.
Rekhtman was a passenger in a Nissan Altima that was traveling south on Skokie Boulevard and trying to make a left so that it could travel east onto Dempster Street, when it collided with a Lexus LS 400 sedan which was northbound on Skokie Boulevard, Weinman said.
The commander said he assumed the traffic lights were green for both cars when the wreck occurred.
Weinman said he did not know who was at fault but said the turning vehicle would have to yield to oncoming traffic before turning.
The Altima sustained damage “all over’’ and there were no reports of other injuries, the commander said.
No citations have been issued tonight.
An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.
