Firefighters extinguished a fire that broke out early this morning in a grocery store in the South Shore neighborhood, authorities said.
As of about 3 a.m., firefighters were in a defensive mode as they battled "heavy fire" at the grocery store, which is located in the 2000 block of East 79th Street, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
Fire officials reported that the fire was out at 4:44 a.m. on the Twitter feed of the department's media office.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
