Emanuel names former CTA chairman to RTA Board

Tribune reporter

Former CTA Chairman Carole Brown was appointed Monday to serve on the Regional Transportation Authority board.

Brown, 47, a finance expert who was CTA chairman for six years ending in September 2009, was appointed to the RTA post by Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

Praising the selection, John Paul Jones, an organizer with the Developing Communities Project, said, “The RTA needs a Chicago appointee familiar with the challenges facing the CTA.’’
Brown replaces Dr. Horace Smith for a term that expires next June 30.

Meanwhile, Kevin Irvine, who has served since last year on a task force that recommends improvements to increase accessibility for disabled riders at CTA rail stations, will join the CTA board.

Irvine has also served as chairman of the CTA Americans with Disabilities Act Advisory Committee since 2005. He replaces the late Henry Chandler Jr. on the CTA board.
