Betancourt, 55, is a Portage Park hypnotherapist. Betancourt said her working-class neighborhood has suffered while wealthier neighborhoods got new development. She attributed that to economic status more than race but said the two often go hand in hand. "I look at Andersonville and see all the investment that has been made there, the upscale stores and restaurants and all the gentrification going on," she said. "I have seen the opposite in my neighborhood" The Six Corners shopping area once was vibrant, she said, but now it's like a ghost town.
