Driver questioned after pedestrian, 87, struck in Uptown

Charges are pending against a motorist who struck an 87-year-old pedestrian in the Uptown neighborhood this morning, police said.

The accident happened at 7:55 a.m. on the 4700 block of North Broadway, police said.

The man was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in serious-to-critical condition, according to Chicago Fire Department Spokesman Will Knight.

Police said officers had the male driver in custody and were questioning him. Alcohol may have played an issue in the accident, but no charges have been filed, police said. The Major Accidents unit is investigating.
