Best for: People who are lactose intolerant. Goat's milk has similar fat, protein, calcium and lactose contents as whole cow's milk, Metzger said. Goat's milk has the same level of saturated fat as whole cow's milk, but it has a higher proportion of short chain fatty acids capric, caprylic and caproic, which give goat's milk its characteristic flavor. Many people who are allergic to cow's milk aren't allergic to goat's milk.
Beware: Goat's milk can be more expensive and harder to find than cow's milk, and it also contains less folic acid, Snyder said. Look for it at Whole Foods or in health food stores.
