D'Angelo House of Blues concert canceled

D’Angelo’s concert Wednesday at House of Blues was canceled Monday “due to a medical emergency.”

A statement from the promoters Live Nation said D’Angelo “expresses his sincere regret due to this unfortunate circumstance.”

An agent for the singer said, "It's serious, but he should be OK," according to a House of Blues executive.

The singer also canceled concerts Tuesday in Minneapolis and Saturday in San Diego. He is also scheduled to perform Friday at the Outside Lands festival in San Francisco. Concerts last week in New York and Maryland were canceled due to illness. A Facebook post from the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland, announcing the cancellation last Saturday said D’Angelo was in the hospital.

Since releasing two landmark neo-soul albums, “Brown Sugar” in 1995 and “Voodoo” in 2000, the singer born Michael Archer in 1974 has kept a low profile. He began playing again sporadically last year, including a brief set in September at the United Center opening for Mary J. Blige.
