Before the press conference in which he called for a host of new laws aimed at restricting gun sales and stiffening penalties for criminals who use them, Mayor Richard Daley talks with Chicago Police superintendent Jodi Weis, at police headquarters. He went on to say to the press Im here to speak on behalf of families who lost loved ones, Daley said, standing before a long series of tables topped with illegal weapons confiscated by Chicago police. The announcement took on added import as the U.S. Supreme Court was weighing to overturn the city's gun ban.
