• Police believe a 9-year-old boy was shot by a gunman who had been aiming at his mother's boyfriend as they drove on the South Side. The boy shouted from the backseat, "Mommy, I'm shot," and his mother drove him to Comer Children's Hospital, about a mile and a half away. He underwent surgery overnight for a gunshot wound to the chest and police said he was expected to survive. Read more

• A woman on her way to work died after her car crashed into a house in Burbank early this morning,  authorities said. Marlene Walter, 59, was headed to her manager's job at a Dunkin Donuts in Chicago when her Pontiac hit a home in the 5400 block of South State Road in Burbank, officials said. Read more
