Chicago police investigate the crime scene in the 1800 block of east 79th Street after Ashton Wise, 11, and his father were shot Friday, December 11, 2009. Ashton was killed by a shotgun blast to the head as he and his father sat in their parked vehicle at approximately 8:25 p.m., near East 78th Street and South Kingston Avenue in the South Shore neighborhood. Ashton was dead at the scene and his father was critically injured, authorities said. The father drove the vehicle to the 1800 block of East 79th Street, where he crashed into two parked cars and a day care center, authorities said. "I'm so sad," said Marian Scott, who for decades has been a neighbor of the Wise family. "That little boy was an angel." Ashton attended the sixth grade at Ruggles Elementary School, 7831 S. Prairie Ave., said Chicago Public Schools officials.
